Thinking about moving your streaming service to another OTT platform? It's a big decision, but there are plenty of reasons to consider it, like wanting to scale up or finding a better deal on cost or features.

Just keep in mind that migration requires careful planning. Here are some tips we think might help you out.

1. Data migration:

When it comes to data migration, the most important thing is making sure that all your user data, subscription data, and content metadata are moved over to the new platform correctly. So don't forget to double-check everything!

Content Migration

To migrate your content, you've got a couple of options. You can use a CSV file or an MRSS feed to get everything moved over to the Ventuno platform. Whatever works best for you!

User Migration

When it comes to migrating your users, there are a few things we'll need from you. First off, we'll need you to add your Payment Gateway accounts details to the Ventuno platform. To link once published

In addition to that, we'll need you to share some user data with us. That includes Registration details, Subscription details, Transaction details, as well as Continue Watching, Wishlist, User Activities, and Settings preferences. And when you're exporting your user list, make sure you include the necessary columns for us to import everything correctly.

⚠️ Now, a couple of things to keep in mind:

  • Existing users won't be able to access their previously downloaded content after migration.

  • And if we don't get the Continue Watching, Wishlist, User Activities, and Settings preferences for each user, they won't be able to retrieve that data in the app after migration.

Before we get started with the migration process, we'll thoroughly test everything on our end. That includes the website, mobile apps, and connected TV apps. Once we've successfully completed the QA phase, we'll begin the data migration based on the data you've shared with us.

Plans & Coupons Migration:

You will need to provide us with details about the existing plans and coupons, along with the payment gateway reference ID details

We need some details from the payment gateways as well, such as:

  • Stripe Payment: Subscription ID from Payment gateway

  • Apple Payment: Original Transaction ID from existing vendor

  • Paypal & Braintree: Payment Method Token ID, Client ID

  • Amazon Pay (Fire TV): Subscription ID/Transaction ID

  • Google Play (Android): Subscription ID /Transaction ID

  • Roku pay (Roku Tv): Subscription ID /Transaction ID

Certification Requirement:

For Android App, Android TV, iOS app & Apple TV, we will require certificates. In case you are unable to provide the certificate details, we will reset the existing certificate and proceed once you approve on the respective app stores.

However, since Roku and Fire TV certificates cannot be reset, we will need the certificates for Roku and FireTv.

What should the users do after the migration:

Once the migration process is complete and the apps are submitted to app stores, all users will have to update their app. After the successful update, the user should log in to the app with the updated password at least once.

ℹ️ Procedure to stop new users from existing vendors:

  • Once the migration and testing are completed successfully, we can stop the recurring billing process from your existing vendor, and start it from the Ventuno platform.

  • However, we will not stop new registrations from your existing vendor immediately after migration.

  • We need at least 24 hours after migration before stopping the new registrations. During this time, we can migrate new users to Ventuno by running a migration script once or twice a day.

2. Features:

It's important to make sure that the new platform you're considering can support all the features and customization options you need. For example, do you want to be able to brand everything with your own logo? Do you need a variety of monetization options? And what about content management tools - how easy is it to use?

Make sure you take the time to think about all the features you need and make sure the new platform can support them before making any big decisions.

3. User experience:

When you're considering a new platform, it's important to take a close look at the user experience and make sure it is intuitive to use.

This involves checking things like how easy it is to find and edit content, how intuitive the navigation is, and how smoothly everything works overall.

So before making any decisions, be sure to spend some time really exploring the new platform. That way, you can be confident that you're making the right choice for everyone involved.

4. Analytics and reporting:

When you're checking out a new platform, one important thing to consider is whether it provides the analytics and reporting features you need to keep track of how your users are engaging with your content. This includes things like how many people are subscribing, how long they're staying subscribed, and which pieces of content are performing the best.

So before you make any decisions, be sure to take a good look at the analytics and reporting capabilities of the new platform and make sure they're going to meet your needs. That way, you can keep a close eye on how your content is doing and make any necessary adjustments to keep things running smoothly.

You should definitely take a look at the reports that Ventuno provides. We've put a lot of effort into creating these reports because we genuinely care about our users and want to help them grow their businesses.

5. Support and documentation:

Make sure to check if the new platform offers the support and documentation you need.

Ventuno has you covered with our helpful documentation at help.ventunotech.com. And if you need any further assistance, our support team is always ready to help.

You can reach our support team also by clicking on the chat button on the right bottom of your screen.

6. Cost:

When you're exploring new OTT platforms, make sure to factor in all the costs, including any add-ons that you might need to pay for separately. It's important to compare the overall costs of each platform and make a decision based on which one offers the best value for your business.
